Shelter-in-Place Update for San Francisco Private Dog Walkers

As San Francisco’s Shelter-in-Place order continues to evolve, we are closely monitoring the local authorities guidelines for a safe and responsible re-opening date. Our current goal is set for May 18, 2020!

On Friday 5/8/2020, updated SIP orders were released specifically noting, what appears to confirm, that private dog walkers in San Francisco can walk dogs. This is potentially wonderful news! Private, on-leash, social distancing walks is exactly what we have been doing for the last 11 years!

Updated San Francisco Health Orders

See Page 8 of FAQ FOR SAN FRANCISCO HEALTH ORDERS:

Are dog walkers allowed? Yes, individuals may provide in-home care for pets and may walk one dog at a time (or multiple dogs that live in the same household), but they must walk the dog(s) on a leash and maintain at least 6 feet distance from other people and animals, per CDC recommendations. (Amended 5/7/2020)

Consistent contact with San Francisco’s Office of Economic Workforce, Office of Small Business, the Department of Public Health, the City Attorney’s office and the team at our local District 11 office has been extremely helpful in guiding us down the path most effective for the safety of all. It’s important to work with our local authorities when it comes to determining a safe re-opening date. Each time SIP orders are updated, communications to these agencies start going back and forth, as the language is interpreted.

Social Distancing Guidelines

A quick summary of new policies that will be in place going forward include:

Previous policies that will continue to be in place:
