June 30, 2021 Updates

Sniff and Go has some major announcements in regards to services, pricing, more!

There is quite a bit of information to unpack here, so a quick summary is:

  • We will be suspending cat care, weekend, evening, and holiday services starting August 1, 2021
  • Introduction of discounted Monthly Plans for daily schedules that are at least 3+ days per week
  • Pricing updates to As-Needed walks
  • Professional dog training and behavioral consultant updates
  • Masks and vaccines

Here we go!

Cat Care
After much thought and discussion, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend cat care services after Saturday 7/31/21. We hope to be able to provide cat care services in the future. Cat care traditionally requires employees to have weekend and holiday availability and due to the labor shortage, it has been extremely difficult to find candidates with that availability while still meeting all of our criteria and requirements for employment. We apologize for this change and can provide referrals if necessary. Since 2009, we have cared for hundreds of kitties in San Francisco and we will miss the many currently in our care. Thank you for all of the memories.

Private Dog Walking: Unavailable after 4 pm, weekends, and holidays
Regretfully, the service hours for our private dog walking service will be reduced due to the labor shortage. We will no longer be able to schedule weekday walks starting after 4 pm and will have no availability on weekends and holidays. The new service hours will be Monday through Friday, 7 am to 4 pm. We hope that this is a temporary reduction in availability. We also hope our clients who often need our services after 4 pm can continue to schedule private dog walking services before 4 pm in the future. We do not have an estimated time when late afternoon, weekend, and holiday walks could return but it would be mainly determined by our staff and their availability.

As-Needed Walks
We will continue to offer as-needed walks outside of the monthly plan. Monthly plan clients are able to schedule services at a discounted rate (equivalent to what they pay monthly). Clients without a monthly plan can schedule services at our new revised rates below:

1 Dog Household
25 minute walks at $35
45 minute walks at $55
60 minute walks at $75

2 Dog Household
25 minute walks at $40
45 minute walks at $60
60 minute walks at $80

The monthly plans have many advantages — one of the primary advantages being that we can place consistency and routine into a weekly schedule. Having an ongoing schedule will make it easier for Sniff and Go to assign the same walker as much as possible. This will then help foster an even closer relationship between your dog and their walker. The more your dog is walked, the more they are able to engage with their dog walker, getting the physical, intellectual and emotional engagement they need. An ongoing schedule can save clients time versus scheduling a variable schedule every week. Once your furry friend is on a monthly plan, their spot is then guaranteed, regardless of how often you cancel services. Finally, clients will save money and can consistently budget by taking advantage of a monthly plan.

Additional Notes:

Your single monthly plan payment would be due on the 1st of each month.
If you would like to cancel the monthly plan, we would need an email or client portal notification, by the 15th of the month prior.
Our cancellation policy is to have the request submitted to our client portal or via email by 12:00 pm the M-F business day before your service.
Monthly plans do no go up in price when there are more than 4 full weeks in a month.
Monthly plans will not go down if cancellations are made.
We will continue to offer dog boarding on an extremely limited basis. The new boarding rate includes three 25 minute walks (at $35 each) minimum, plus morning and evening potty breaks for $105. Additional walks or longer walks would be available upon request at an increased rate. Boarding will continue to be a very limited service as it is based on the availability of our employees to accept other animals into their homes.
We will be introducing our new scheduling software (Time To Pet) in a separate email later this summer. Clients should find it even easier to use, making communication with the team faster and with greater transparency. Scheduling and pet information will be transferred automatically but we will encourage all clients to review their information when possible to ensure accuracy. We are excited about the improved experience for both staff and clients using this new tool in the future.

Essential Worker Discount
After almost a full year, we are ending the essential worker discount. Thank you to all of the essential workers for helping us stay safe, healthy, and productive over these last two years. The essential worker discount that was started in the Summer of 2020 saved clients nearly $2000!

Employee Wages
The minimum wage in San Francisco will be increasing on July 1, 2021. It has been, and will always be, our intention to provide the highest competitive wage for our employees. We pay well above minimum wage in addition to providing all supplies, full IRS mileage reimbursement, bonuses, and all your generous tips go straight to the team. We will continue to have training foundations like:

Veterinarian taught Pet CPR and Pet First Aid program
Industry-leading virtual learning modules that cover everything from reading dog body language to bite prevention and safety
Hands-on training and introductory walks
Standards testing
Ongoing continuing education even after training is complete

In addition, I (Emi here, Sniff and Go owner/founder/dog walker/wife/mom:)) went through a super intense positive reinforcement dog training and behavior consultant academy from January through June of 2021. I spent about 15+ hours per week going to lectures, working on projects, doing home assignments, learning how to improve my training mechanics, and reading a lot. The science behind R+ (positive reinforcement) behavioral training has made a huge impact on how I train and work with our team. As the pandemic continues to force pivots into our business, I felt that receiving formal education would help us all (myself, our team, and if you ever have any questions) be of better service to you and your pets. The main skills we practice on our daily Sniff and Go walks include:

Loose leash walking (LLW) (this is a skill that I also practice every single day with my own pandemic rescues!)
Staying under threshold
Working on “Leave It”
Working on “Wait” and “Let’s Go!”

In order to work on these skills, the use of high-value treats is a must. We see lots of pups love items like cheese, beef, and turkey to reinforce their hard work. If you know what your furry friend absolutely LOVES, please let us know so we can make that part of our routine. If there is anything your dog is allergic to, this is also just as important for us to know. The process of delivering treats is done mindfully, as the intention is to not go above the preferred caloric intake of each individual pup.

Masks and Vaccines
When news of the state of CA and San Francisco’s reopening plan started coming out, the research started in understanding what we are to be doing as a small business. We received new guidelines from the state of California and OSHA and per the San Francisco Department of Public Health: “One of the updates includes that employers may allow fully vaccinated employees not to wear face coverings indoors, but must document their vaccination status”. We have gone through the process of documenting vaccination records for those on our team that would like to not wear masks. I am respectful of anyone’s decision on whether to vaccinate or not. Our current policy is that masks are to be worn if a vaccination record has not been documented.

THANK YOU for your continued support of our locally owned and operated business. We believe these changes will help us keep employees walking with the same dogs as much as possible, a better user experience for both clients and staff, enable savings every month for private dog walking clients, and provide an industry-leading wage for our employees. If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or words of encouragement regarding these updates, please contact us at hello@sniffandgo.com. We are here and happy to help!

Sincerely,

Emi and the Team at Sniff and Go
